Experience Points (XP)

Experience Points (XP)

  1. In addition to earning Trophies and Badges for their hard work, Learners can earn Experience Points (or XP). XP can be attached to learning content and given to the learner upon completion. They can also be attached to Achievements and Manager Praise Badges. This means the Learner will accumulate XP through a variety of actions and their total XP will reflect their engagement with the platform.

  • Admin Tip

: Set up a specific scale/weightings for pieces of content to keep XP across the platform consistent.

2. A granular measure of the activity of a learner. A large number of actions could influence the amount of XP a learner can gain. Experience Points can be associated with almost every type of learning content and they provide a motivator for learners to go out and complete more learning on the site.

XP can also be attached to Praise Badges, Badges and Achievements to add additional rewards to these and make them worth chasing. XP is a fantastic way to make the system seem cohesive and to drive the learner to engage more with the platform. For instance, in clubs you will receive XP for posting, replying to a post, or liking another learner’s post. If your leaderboard is based on the XP then this provides even more motivation to do additional learning as your learners competitive nature drives them to push their way up the leaderboard.

It is important to be consistent when allocating XP. It helps to have a plan of how much XP different types of content, badges, etc will be worth. Then, stick to the plan. That way there is always a similar level of reward for completing similar content.
