Levels

Levels

Level functionality aims to provide a clear, self-motivating pathway for each learner. Levels encourage users to progress through the platform and ‘level up’! They have a huge range of uses, from content-oriented to XP-levelling only. You can attach essential content to a level, which will sit in the learners my things to do, You can also assign optional content to a level for those learners that want to go above and beyond. Another way to tie it into the broader gamification strategy is to assign achievements to a level so that learners have to “explore” the platform on their own before progressing. This works well for things like looking at the trophy cabinet.

This can play a huge part of your epic meaning, driving a story-like narrative that encourages learners to continue progressing through the platform and upskilling with all of the content that is on there.

Pro Tip: Levels work in a linear fashion, but you can converge levels, this can be used for induction, where each department would have a custom induction level/levels that goes over any roll specific learning or content, then converge into one company-wide level pathway.

Notes:

  • Every learner sits on a level

  • Every level sits within a pathway

  • Not every level requires content – however, it must then have XP requirement

  • It is possible to create levels with no XP requirement if there are content requirements

  • One level will always lead on to another specified level – until the end!

Some inspiration and ideas for the learner journey!

Levels can be narrative-driven, thematic, content-focused, competition-focused, business-focused, programme-focused – or pretty much anything else.

Customer examples:

  • Customer 1: starts with navigating the platform, moves on to company history – a short, 5-level path that will expand over time.

  • Customer 2: starts with navigating the platform, moves on to purely XP-levelling in order to promote self-driven learning.

  • Customer 3: all about XP, driving competition from day one.

  • Customer 4: a narrative-driven training method; each level teaches you how to set up and use the platform while using a story as the backdrop.

  • Customer 5: Company-themed narrative about becoming a rock star; content starts out with platform-navigation before moving on to mandatory content
