What is a Curriculum
A Curriculum groups content items into a deliverable package. This makes it perfect for courses that naturally flow together, or for controlled release of content, either as a module or within a level.
Why use a curriculum?
Allows for timed release of content
A method of highlighting content that should be completed in a specific order
Allows us to invite to multiple items of content in a single invitation
A method of not allowing progression until a test score is reached
Curriculums have multiple release options. If you select the ‘Invite Sent’ option content within that curriculum will be immediately available when someone enrolls on the curriculum, whereas selecting ‘Specific Date’ will keep the content locked until the chosen day.
Selecting ‘On Completion Of’ will keep the content locked until you have completed the previous content, and can also be set to remain locked for however many days you want, after the completion of the previous piece. This could allow you to drip feed learners content rather than having them “binge” the content which can result in them not absorbing the info.
Curriculums also have another useful functionality. The “Hide curriculum in My Things to Do” tick box will hide the complete curriculum once the first piece of content has been released and completed if the other content is locked for any amount of time. For example, if you set the next piece of content to be released 10 days later, it will remove the curriculum from a learner's ‘My Things To Do’ until the next piece of content has been released. Then once the 10 days have passed, and the content is available, the curriculum will reappear in the learners My Things To Do and an email notification will also then be sent to the learner if you have ticked the "Send an email when new content is released by this curriculum" box.
However, if you have a mixture of locked and unlocked content, the curriculum will stay in a learners ‘My Things To Do’ until they have completed all the unlocked content. If you have more locked content to come and they have completed all the unlocked content, then the Curriculum will disappear from a learner's‘ My Things To Do’ until the next piece of content is released.
This is a great option if you want to try and reduce the number of things in a learner's My Things To Do section which would allow them to focus on the content you want them doing.
